Four more incomparable, inexchangeable days, including a visit to Provo last night. This past week my funds have drained, but my life has replenished.
Well, I guess it lasted till yesterday night. Next week is school, and surely last night was goodbye… so I sat in my car all sad after the drop-off. I decided to just stay there on the road.
It snowed and rained all night, making that pretty music on my car top, and curtaining my windows. I woke up once or twice to put some coats over me and reheat the car. It wasn’t so cold.
Mitt Romney lost Iowa the other day, 25 percent to 34. A win would’ve clinched it for him. Fortunately, Obama won there. Mike Huckabee is no president, and I detest what he and his 34 percent stand for… Romney’s still in competition and all, but if Huckabee ends up crowding him out, I’ve decided to vote Obama. After him, I’d vote Edwards, then McCain out of pity, and then…? Then a third party. McCain’s going to drop out soon anyway, so if it’s Clinton on blue, I guess I’ll vote Constitution or something.
What a sad affair. I feel like Joseph Smith before his candidacy.
I can’t even affiliate with Republicanism anymore. So sad… They were the smarter, more honourable party. Democrats today are ignorant servants, believing and preaching benefits to the nation while walking the path of destruction. They want to remove morality from law and turn us all into addicts of our own sin. They want to increase taxes until they break the backs of the middle class. They wield anarchistic "freedom" against the crumbling establishment, but only enough to sway the mad rabble to vote them into total power; and then we see the dictatorialism emerge, the stricture of law tighten around our throats; so that in voting for liberality, we effectually enslave ourselves.
And still, I must vote for Democratic enslavement, because an enslaved body is better than an enslaved spirit. Because an atheistic government is more worthy than a corrupt Christian one. Have Democrats tried to destroy religion from the land? Well, if they do it, it’s black and white; their stark evil is not hidden or muted. But Republicans want to eradicate true religion and substitute a counterfeit, a piecemeal Bible, a contradictory doctrine, and to deceive the honest believers, and turn black and white into grey.
Christians… your Christianity is false, and fallen — and I say it not by inspiration of your enemy the devil; I say it on behalf of your God whose voice you cannot hear. If militant atheists are outright enemies, then you are the subtle traitors of the whole human race, because you seek to blind the world with partial truths; yet God has foreseen your evil kingdom, and has prepared an entire heaven for you and your deceived souls. We describe your heaven as having "the glory of the moon", because having partial knowledge from the holy Books of the Jews, you yet lack the brightness of the sun — you reject it even when God sends it to you. Your fathers killed the American prophet God sent to save you from civil war; and now you preach lies about the candidate God raised up to salve the scars of war today.
Herein is your deception…
Jesus was going from Jericho with his entourage, and a blind beggar on the road, hearing the commotion, cried out to him for mercy. (Was it one blind man or two? You don’t know, I don’t know; so you see the human imperfections of your infallible Bible, and the need of a living prophet. But I follow Saint Mark here.)
Some "believers" tried to quiet the blind man’s disturbance; but Jesus heard him and sent for him, as he had just instructed his disciples: he who makes himself first will be last, but the servant of all will be the greatest. Coming to Jesus, he was asked what he wanted.
"That I might receive my sight!"
So Jesus healed him, saying, "Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole."
Go whose way, did he say? "My way," Jesus’ way? No; "go thy way"; take your journey. Whatever would have become of the blind man after that, he had still called on Jesus with faith, and Jesus had blessed him. If he had left immediately, even if he began to fight against the Church, he still would’ve had his sight.
But what did he do? He began instead to follow after Jesus.
The same it is with Christians. Believe in Jesus, they say, and you will be saved.
Is that true? No, that’s not true. Believe in Jesus, have faith in Jesus, call on Jesus, and… what? And like the blind man, you will be HEARD of Jesus; you will be BLESSED of Jesus. And then you will go your way.
But not until you walk after him, follow his footsteps and not depart, and be his disciple will you ever be saved.
Works don’t save, say Christians. Is that true?
No, it’s not true. We are all saved by a work — the work of Jesus. Does the faith of Jesus, the love of Jesus save us? No; his blood, his life, his death, his WORK saves us.
Then our own works don’t save us, say Christians. True?
False. Jesus saves no sinner but the repentant. Before Jesus, there came John preaching the "baptism of repentance"; "Bring forth fruits meet for repentance," he said — bring forth works. And then Jesus also preached, "The kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." As he also said, "Whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother." As he said again in a parable of planting seeds, how that some by their works bore fruit:
"The sower soweth the word. …"And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful."And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred."
So that, as it is Jesus’ work that saves us, so it is our own work that makes us savable — our own repentance, our own fruit, our own doing the will of God.
And how do we repent? What are God’s commands? What is the will of God, that we might do it?
Christians may presume to know what the will of God was toward the ancient Jews, because God spoke to them by prophets. But Christians know very little of God’s will to themselves, because God still speaks to men by prophets, and Christians disbelieve the new prophets, preferring their interpretation of the old. Christians, instead of the living word of God by his spokesmen, listen to the voices around them and the voices inside them, some good and some bad, and are equally as moral as atheists who do the same.
What? Is God’s will to us so different today that the Bible is unreliable?
Ask those Jews who, relying on their own true Bible, finally crucified the Yahweh who gave it. Or ask those Jews who instead believed in the living prophet, the carpenter’s son, who came among them antagonizing the old ministers.
And we Mormons, we LDS, how we antagonize you Christians with our restored gospel, our open and growing Bible! How we destroy your craft, your paid ministry! How we break your traditions with better traditions!
You are the wayside, and when the seed of the gospel comes to you, immediately Satan descends like a bird to snatch it away.
Repent, instead. Hold on to the seed; let it take root; nourish it; don’t sweep it away with your multitude of doubts, with your hatred you learned at church, or with your insults and sneers, the same that were once thrown at Jesus. Hold on to the gospel which you call occult, which you brand "Mormonism" and discount as prophet-worship. This gospel came from your God, and it’s the religion you’re supposed to have as professed believers. Do you already have a gospel of faith? We have one of faith AND of works, which is alive, as a body is enlivened by its spirit.
The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.
…Or else continue in blindness to blind the eyes of all mankind. And be satisfied with your coming reward.
The prophets are speaking. Choose a language.
